My Story

My name is Joban Singh, a 20-year-old with roots in the vibrant state of Punjab, India. My journey began in Punjab, but it took a significant turn when my family relocated to Edmonton, Canada, when I was five years old. Growing up in Edmonton has enabled me to integrate my rich cultural heritage with the diverse Canadian environment, resulting in a unique fusion of traditions and experiences.

One of the most significant ways I have maintained a connection to my roots is through the folk dance of Bhangra and the rhythmic beats of the Dhol. These traditional Punjabi art forms have been integral to my life since childhood. From a young age, I was captivated by the energy, joy, and cultural significance that Dhol imparted to any occasion. Witnessing performers in Punjab skillfully play the Dhol ignited a profound passion within me, leading me to immerse myself in mastering Dhol playing.

My journey with Dhol has transcended personal endeavours; it has become a mission to preserve and share my culture with the broader community in Edmonton. Whether I am performing at cultural events, imparting knowledge to others, or playing at special occasions, my objective is to preserve the vibrant spirit of Punjab and foster its continued growth.

Playing the Dhol brings me immense joy, and I am delighted to observe the excitement it engenders in others. This passion has motivated me to offer my services for bookings at events. By sharing the infectious rhythms of the Dhol, I aspire to create unforgettable experiences that celebrate and honour our rich cultural heritage. Whether it is a wedding, festival, or any other special event, I am committed to infusing the lively essence of Punjab into every performance.
